Hello peeps! Thank you for joining me today! Right now, the second story in my Alien Next Door series, Alien Admirer, is with my CPs, and I'm finishing up another 1Night Stand story, His Alien Virgin. After those, my next project is going to be an urban sci-fi. While there will be some romantic elements, the romance will not be the main focus of the story. It will be more aliens in an action/adventure. So, I have a question for you. 

What would you prefer to see on the cover of an urban sci-fi with romantic elements? 

(Yes, I know many of these are urban fantasy and PNR, but I'm just trying to show representatives of the options. :)

An Alien Update

Hello peeps! Thank you for stopping by for a visit!

I didn't know what to post about today, so I thought I'd give you a quick update on what I'm working on, and share an excerpt from my upcoming release, Hey, Santa.

Reading - I've just started reading Mila 2.0 by Debra Driza. It's a YA sci-fi thriller.

Writing - I have two chapters left to write in Alien Admirer, which is the second book in my Alien Next Door series. I am hoping to release this story in the beginning of December.

Editing - Hey, Santa is in the final stages of editing with Wizards in Publishing. This story will officially release on October 1, 2013.

She doesn’t want a lot for Christmas…

Claire Otton dreads spending another holiday alone. When her best friend convinces her to approach the sexy mall Santa, she takes the chance and asks him out, hoping for so much more.

Although Andreas Castellanos blends in on Earth, he knows he will never belong. But when the gorgeous woman he’d been staring at invites him to dinner, he has a hard time saying no.

“You can’t be serious.” Claire mustered the dirtiest look possible for her best friend.

Tiffany held out her hands and air-squeezed the man’s firm butt cheeks from a distance. “C’mon. Look at that ass.”

“Yes, but a Santa Claus? How do I know what he looks like under that suit and beard?” Imagining removing the white hair to find a wrinkled old man, she shuddered.

“Only one way to find out.” Smacking Claire’s butt, Tiffany urged her forward. “Go ask him.”

She planted her feet. Thank goodness she hadn’t worn heels for their marathon shopping trip only two days before Christmas. “If you’re so interested, why don’t you?”

Tiffany rolled her eyes, sighing. “Because I’m engaged to be married to the love of my life. You’re the Grinch who needs to get laid.”

“I’m not a Grinch,” she snapped. Breathing deeply, she counted backwards from ten. “I’m sorry. This is just a very stressful time of year for me.”

“I know.” Tiffany cupped her elbow. “I just want to see you happy at Christmas again. It doesn’t have to be a miserable holiday anymore. That’s part of the reason I dragged you with me today.”

She swallowed the lump in her throat, tears welling already. Please don’t let me turn into a blubbering mess in the middle of the mall. While she appreciated her friend’s concern, she coped better on her own. “I…I should go home. I can’t just pretend it didn’t happen.”

7 Writer Challenge - Never Gonna Desert You

Romance author Lorraine Paton tagged me in the 7 Writer Challenge. According to the rules I must go to either page 7 or page 77 of one of my works, and starting on line 7, post the next 7 lines. After that I must challenge 7 other writers to do the same.

Now, I just did this on Facebook for my work-in-progress, Never Gonna Desert You, the sequel to Never Gonna Let You Go. But, the story was still in my notebook then, and page 7 in my notebook is not the same as page 7 on the computer. If you read the previous excerpt from Facebook, it is in Brook's POV, but this one is in Melina's POV.

So, here are my seven lines from page 7:

Tapping the receive button, she braced for the call. Nothing good could come from the higher-ups buzzing her.

“Hello, Melina? Are you busy?” A string of choked sobs followed.

Melina gasped. “Brook, is that you? Are you okay?”

“No.”

Silence.

Oh god, what’s wrong? Her heart hammered in her chest. “Where are you? I’ll be right there if you tell me.”

The Next Big Thing - Another Night, Another Planet

I was tagged to participate in this blog challenge a while back, and introduced you to Alien Adoration here. I am still working on this story. Both Barbara Elsborg and Jennifer Lane tagged me this week, so I decided to reveal a bit about another work-in-progress.

Another Night, Another Planet

What is the working title of your book?

That would be Another Night, Another Planet.

Where did the idea come from for the book?

I was asked to write a story that combines both the 1Night Stand and Elatia lines from Decadent Publishing. I thought about it for a few days and this is the story that came to mind.

What genre does your book fall under?

It's erotic science fiction romance.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

Nate - Adam Rodriguez
Ava - Zooey Deschanel

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Madame Eve brings together two people who have given up on finding a serious releationship, but with the help of the Adamos of Elatia, can she convince them that true love can be found on another planet?

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

This story will be submitted to Decadent Publishing.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

I'm only half-way through the first draft.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

I don't like to compare my work with other authors. This story is similar to my other 1Night Stand stories, yet different.

Who or What inspired you to write this book?

I was asked to write it, and I'm not sure where the idea came from before it popped into my head. After reading Dead or Alive by LJ Garland, and many science fiction romance stories by DL Jackson, I was inspired to put a bit more action into this story, so I added a chase scene in the beginning. That was fun to write. :)

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

Even though the characters are futuristic and some live off planet, they experience real world issues like rejection and discrimination due to class and heritage. Ava comes from a low class family, unable to afford to further her education. Stuck in dead-end jobs, she catches a break, finding a housekeeping position on the Mother Traveler. She is left with little time to date on Earth, and any guests on the ship who show an interest are quick to toss her out as soon as she puts out. Nate is a space cowboy, travelling the universe without a planet to call home. No one wanted him as a baby, and with his mixed ancestry, no species will claim him as their own.

Writing The End

I'm in the middle of writing the last chapter of the second book in my Mark of the Stars series. And things are s-l-o-w-i-n-g down. It's been a long journey with this WIP (work-in-progress), as I wrote it three years ago, and edited and revised it many times since then. With this last round though, I decided to completely rewrite it. I've learned a lot in the last year, since I received my very first contract, and my writing style has changed a bit. I know I still have so much more room to grow as a writer, but I always have my mind open to knowledge.

So, I'm writing the last chapter, and where the previous two chapters seemed to jump onto the page, this one  is taking forever. My characters are indecisive, and aren't moving fast enough to the point where I can say my first (new) draft is finished. I know I have several rounds of revisions to go before the story is ready to submit, but why can't I finish? I already have another WIP started that I'm just as anxious to work on.

Does anyone else ever have this problem with big projects? How do you overcome the slow progression toward the end?

Maybe if I stare at my inspiration for my hero, Nathan Fillion, that will help.

After two releases, I'm exhausted.

It's been a long week already with the release of Satin Sheets in Space and An Unexpected Return. I'm so tired. I've hardly written anything new, but I can't wait to get back to working on book 2 of my Mark of the Stars series. So, here's a snippet from that story:

Instead of returning to the mess hall, she entered the day room. Only one seat remained unoccupied, an ancient brown-clothed and ripped chair stuck in the back corner. The black leather couches surrounding the fifty-two inch television screen held men and women watching the Ottawa Senators play against the Toronto Maple Leafs. With everyone engaged, she managed to sneak to the back without any snide alien jokes.

Sitting down, she wanted to forget about Jeff and Dr. Allen, to just enjoy a sense of normalcy. She closed her eyes and pretended to be a part of the group, one of the fans watching the hockey game.

“This isn’t exactly a place one wants to fall asleep, you especially. I’ve seen what they do to others who have fallen asleep in here.”

She jumped in her seat. She’d only closed her eyes for two seconds. How had she not sensed his approach?

He leaned over her, his hands resting on the arms of her chair, his face only inches from her own.

“What do you want?” She couldn’t move for fear of winding up in his arms, or tasting his lips.

He smiled, making her loins quiver. “Oh, I can think of so many things…” Standing up, he reached for her hand. “How about we start with a game of air hockey?”

For a second, she considered his offer. It would be so easy to forget all the torment, pretend she was a normal human being like everyone else in the room. But she wasn’t. And he’d been sure to point that out several times in her past. His sudden change in attitude wouldn’t make her not remember.

Without his help, she stood then turned to leave.

He grabbed her wrist, halting her retreat.

Hadn’t he learned the first time? “Get your hands off of me.” Because this time I might end up in your arms with everyone now watching.
